“The best things in life are rescued.”
Uchi no Neko is the second cat cafe in Manila that offers adoption for rescued cats from different animal sanctuaries and rescuers. This cafe is inspired by Japanese cat cafes and they serve cute and delicious bentos. They promote adoption, cat awareness and spaying/neutering of cats.
I was lucky enough to be able to experience Uchi no Neko on its opening just this September 5. The opening promo is worth Php300.00, inclusive of any of their special bentos, drinks, cupcakes, and not just two, but three hours of stay inside the place from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
Due to heavy rain, we arrived at the cafè at 6:30pm and it was fully packed! They have lots of visitors and TV5 was also there. Fortunately, the place was spacious enough to occupy lots of guests. According to one of the owners, the play area is about 100 sq m.
We sat at their cat shaped tables and chairs, and they offered us their humongous menu to pick our orders. Rae ordered a Beef Teriyaki bento, Gummy Bear Iced Tea, and Lemon Lime cupcake. I got myself an Onigiri bento, Hibiscus Tea, and Chocolate cupcake.
While waiting for our food, Rae and I didn’t waste our time, we explored the place to meet the kitties…and a bunch of them were really hyper. They were running around the cafe and playing with the guests. All of the cats are already spayed and neutered, so they were all fat and friendly. Also, the awesome part here is that all the cats at the cafe are adoptable.
The interiors are great. Inside, you can see the cat bridge, scratch post, cat trees, and toys. The white walls were filled with doodles and paintings. I personally loved the hammock and the faux grass for the cats to play on. They also have a swing for humans and cats to share!
They have 30 cats all in all, but there were currently 13 cats on the play area while the others were resting. Cats are introvert creatures, so they need some time alone to avoid getting stressed.
The staff was also friendly and approachable. All of them are cat lovers and also have cats of their own. I got to meet Ms. Cha Laxamana, a co-CCPh member and owner of the cafe, who has cats named after X-Men characters (coolest idea ever)! I stumbled people from Cat Care Philippines and I was to shy to say hi (Introvert problems). I also got to play with Azul, one of the owners’ kid. He was really adorable and speaks English. *nosebleed*
Uchi no Neko also offers a cat hotel located at the second floor of the cafe that could occupy up to 9 cats. They also have an events area where you could rent for special occasions like birthday parties, painting lessons, and seminars.
All in all, Rae and I were really happy and satisfied. The cafe experienced a bunch of problems during their first day but they handled them really well. I will always support Uchi no Neko for their advocacy on helping the homeless furbabies to find their forever home, and to appreciate our very own Pusang Pinoy! So be sure to visit Uchi no Neko for a wonderful experience.
